Recent activity

I've just moved to the Salt Lake Area and there are lots of artist here.  I'll leave it at that for now, too green to tell, as far as any judgement goes.  I loved doing the Utah Art's Festival, there were great artist, music and a huge crowd.  I got some of the best press ever and a very welcoming and enthusiastic crowd.  Sales were okay, not my most financially successful show, but considering the times I was overall pleasantly pleased.  I visited the galleries in Park City, and there's way too many galleries for the size of the city, but by far, the stand-out is The Julie Nester Gallery.  I don't quite get the scene in Salt Lake yet, but working on it.  There are some art snobs and I have had a few run-ins with some, some galleries(which is to be expected) but mostly artist snobs and I am carefully not going to be mentioning any names.  Right now I am getting ready for my next show which is the Celebration of Fine Art in Scottsdale Arizona.  It's a 10 week long show I do and am there everyday painting and selling.  It is my fifth year there and I do pretty well there.  I have some new work that I will be posting closer to the opening of the show Jan 16th.

  1. Hey Melissa,

I stumbled on your blog through FB and your art is captivating. I'm an artist--we'll I'm a published author/novelist/writer/poet. But I am also a visual artist and that has been tough because I don't have hundreds of years or an MFA under my belt. I'm not taken seriously by anyone in the art community becasue I first picked up a paint brush in the spring of 2008. It could be that a) I'm not very good(but my sales to the public beg to differ) or b) I'm not very good to THEM. Either way, I sell a lot and make an okay profit. I've never been moved to read an art blog before but your post about art snobs resonated with me.

You are sure to make a fast and furious name for yourself here in Utah. Good luck to you.

    Peace,

    JulieAnn
